I like that the rain makes it cooler, but I wish it hadn't started after I already left the house so I could have brought an umbrella.

Peter came up with a script for the video we're doing so I was able to start doing some story boards. I'm doing them in Illustrator because its similar to how drawing in Flash works. I want to work on it over the weekend so I can really get into next week.

Its finally Friday...and I got the sniffles...

Today is finally Friday!

I have had a bad case of the 'is it the weekend yet' ALL WEEK! It has been a very busy week, ending with an extra rainy and gloomy Friday, just for kicks!  I'm pretty sure I zombied myself to work today as I think I just woke up like twenty minutes ago.  Thank god for auto pilot right?  Well, still trying to finish the never ending leads list, it is about 40+ pages... so wish me luck!

Wednesday was cool, updated the bully blog, which has become my new favorite thing to do because it is super fun to implicate something new I learned! I even got to find the links myself, involved some detective work but I picked some good ones.  Resized the images, thought of catchy tag lines...and BAM! updated!

Also, yesterday I was given the task of making an icon that would be seen on Facebook, and direct traffic to some of the blogs the company has.  So I started brainstorming about that...getting some sketches together.  Not sure what the rest of the day holds, more sketching...who knows.

SUPER PUMPED for tomorrow because I leave for MV!!!! Super excited to have a break from my other job...the retail life isn't a glamorous one...no no. Well off to microwave my burrito, which I have been thinking about all morning...yuuuuum!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and a great Fourth!

i'm that annoying kid in the red that that keeps sniffling .. sorry.

Another week here ends at Estene Music Group. I have already done fifteen design projects including numerous logo designs for a developing project called Project 50 since I started a few short weeks ago. I have made logos with text and logos with an image. I am waiting for a meeting with Ron and the rest of the group to decide what logo I can move on with.
It really makes a difference what headphones do when you bring them in. I flew through leads today. Maybe i'm getting a hang of this.

Vectors graphics

Working in illustrator is challenging but the results more than make up for it, vectors graphics are ideal if you want to change the side of your work without losing so much resolution and details which in my case I'm constantly changing the size and transferring to another graphic that may differ in size and resolution. Illustrator is perhaps the most widely use program for graphic designers, it help us to to do crisp edge typography without worrying if the lines are going to appear blurry, corporate identity material will look sharper and if your are comic book artist the inking will look great.

(Insert Clever Title here)-Part 12

It rained a lot today, made the walk to work today a lot cooler. Honestly I would take a cool rainy day over the humid supernova's that have plagued the last couple of days. The day again started with leads, it was weird how my range of leads has sort of settled in. I clocked in 75 leads, which has been my average for the past couple of days. I'm looking forward to the second part of the day because whenever Ron gets back we get to present to him what we've done so far on the 50 project. I think we've created the mechanism that will get the content we need, Ron just has to first approve our material first and probably tweak it.

Awkward Start To My Day

The homeless guy asked me for a dollar today just as I was leaving Dunkin Donuts. I felt bad because I had just spent my last few bucks on breakfast. That was an awkward start to my morning. I also fell asleep in my car getting here to Beverly a bit too early this morning. Oh, well.

I heard a new, unreleased song by The Used on the radio the other day called "Itty Bitty". I was quite impressed. I tried looking for it online afterwards, but I guess it's really on the DL (down low) for now. If anyone manages to find it online somewhere, please share the link. Haha... it was amazing!

I'm still pissed that it's supposed to rain for the next week. Being rained on is the most uncomfortable feeling. It's like taking a shower with clothes on. I'm not suggesting that anyone goes outside to stand in the rain naked, however. That might earn you a fine or a 3-day stay in a psych ward.

I came across this little gem this morning. The Fall of Troy - F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.

I completely forgot about this band until today. I wished I had seen them live before they broke up. Thomas Erak is insane live... from what I've seen in videos.

I did just read not too long ago that another one of my favorite bands, Death From Above 1979 got back together and is touring / recording new music for later this year. Super psyched!

Inspiration

Second day at Esente Music Group.  I'm working on the don't drink and drive and bullying posters and for inspiration I researched minimalists poster design and artists like Luba Lukova whose work about social justice had been exhibited worldwide. I believe the best creative work comes from looking at other artists work and letting in new ideas, it is important for graphic artist to keep current with the trends and innovations happening all the time around us because who knows what is out there that just might touch us deeply sometime that's how great things begin

Another Day

Recently some PR folks have been kind enough to offer some taglines for the posters I've made and I greatly appreciate their input. But upon reading them I realized that I haven't considered what fonts I should use. I recently discovered the whole world of typography and I must say it is an interesting one. I never really gave much thought to fonts and typeface before, except whenever someone uses ComicSans. I know nothing about typography, but even I can tell that ComicSans is fuggly.

I've started yet another design for a drunk driving poster. I still need to draw in the keys that the reaper will be holding and I am considering putting in some shadows behind the beer bottles to make it more ominous. For how simple the image is, I'm embarrassed by how long it's taken me to make it.

Dull and Dreary

It's kind of a dreary day here at Esente. It's supposed to rain later as well. There's also a lot less people here than yesterday. It makes me just want a to take a nap for the rest of the day. Alas, work has to get done.

My project's coming along though. I've got a solid body now. I just need to get the face, fingers, and hair. Hopefully I'll be able to get started on the mesh painting and clothes by Monday. I'll probably have to do some work at home if I want to be at that stage (I'll be honest though, it's tough for me to get any work done at home since I'm never there).

day 12 of this so called Toekomst

Dutch. Kind of like Swedish except a little bit rougher? That's how I usually hear it anyway.

Yesterday afternoon I continued on the promotional graphics and played with the paintbrushes on Photoshop to get a cool paper-cut effect for one of my graphics. I'm still brainstorming a lot, though.

This morning was yet again a fail with leads. I got more than yesterday, close to what I was doing last week but still not great. I switched to google chrome last night, which is so much faster than mozilla or safari it's amazing, but merchant circle stopped working twice while I was on there and the lists I got on manta barely had any emails I could find. But I think chrome will actually help me out once merchant circle stops crashing on me.

I also only did about half of what I was hoping to accomplish last night when I got home. Since I work from 9-9 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Wednesday nights are a good time for me to get work done because most people are busy so I never have plans, but last night I was just so tired I ended up staring at things instead of working on them. I got ready for my class tonight and wrote out a whole agenda etc, but then I kind of powered down. I was supposed to edit some pictures from a shoot I had with a friend on Monday and finish a caricature that I'm making for my sister's lab, but I totally spaced and then it was 10pm and I didn't feel like doing anything anymore. That's how it goes pretty often for me actually.

My Photo Shoot Experience

Yesterday I was lucky enough to go on a photo shoot for an engineering company's website in Lawrence.  I do not have a lot of experience with photography although I do think it is really amazing when talented people can take beautiful pictures. I learned a lot about the equipment used to shoot headshots or groupshots.  It takes more equipment than you might think to create a plain white background to use for headshots.  I found it really interesting to also see how the people at the engineering company reacted to us taking their pictures.  Some of them were a little shy but eventually we convinced them to smile and I think the pictures turned out well.  This was a great experience for me because I have never really been exposed to photography at this level.  It is always nice to get to experience something outside of the office so I really enjoyed being able to have this opportunity.  It will come in handy when I am asked to take pictures with a fancy Nikon camera at my other job and I think I really learned a lot.

Today I am going to be writing some articles for The Buzz on Bullying.  I have just learned I am going to write on this blog 3 times a week.  It will be really great for me to be able to write something continuously throughout my time here at Esente because I will know that my words are being posted for the world to see.  I can't wait to get started on writing the articles after lunch!

I hope it doesn't rain all weekend even though it seems like it might.  Have a good weekend!

Randy McGravey 6/27/2013

Today I had a much easier time with my internet marketing research since I actually brought a mouse for my computer. I collected 60 leads and I will definitely start to improve my numbers quickly. My music choices today were awesome as always, I listened to some Mother Love Bone, Black Sabbath, and Temple of the Dog.

Ron called me into his office for a moment today to check out the quality of some drum tracks that one of our clients sent us. The drums are from a program but they were once recorded so they aren't exactly digital. I thought they sounded good despite the somewhat unbalanced levels of the drums. Of course it is impossible to replace a real drummer doing tracks, but this will save money and still produce a fine product.

This weekend I have plenty to keep me busy and I am really excited. I am playing with Tall Boys on Friday in Framingham, and we are also playing on Saturday in Quincy. Sunday night I am going to see Tesla for the 5th time at the Hampton Beach Casino!

Today is a pretty normal day at Esente. Leads went a little slower than they usually do, but at least I made 40. I keep getting long stretches of companies with no site or email or contact form. It's pretty frustrating to spend so long going through these sites and coming up with such a low number.

I noticed that the office is going to be closed for the 4th and 5th, which is good for me since it allows me to spend the long weekend in Philadelphia, which is where most of my friends and family live, instead of the normal two-day trips I've made a few times this summer.

Anything Could Happen

So far at Esente I have
  • Compiled research lists of potential clients
  • Gone to a sales meeting with Ron
  • Edited content on Client's websites
  • Enhanced my writing skills with daily blog posts
  • Written articles about difficult subjects such as Drunk Driving and Bullying
  • Used my written communication skills to write posts for client’s blogs
  • Promoted and updated multiple Facebook and Twitter pages
  • Been assigned to a couple different big projects
  • Truly considered what I want to do in life
Writing is something I'm passionate about and potentially want to do professionally. I often find myself leaving Esente motivated to write and pursue all of my different dreams...because lets be honest I have way more than one.

I don't like saying I'm going to do something and then not. Especially when I've said it a multitude of times and feel so passionate about it. Kind of like with the NYC thing and how for years I’ll be saying I;ll move there one day. Well, I almost feel like I HAVE to live there at some point (preferably sooner than later). Not because I said I would...But because I know I’ve said I would so many times because of how passionate I really am about it. There is something in me that is just so drawn to it. It’s an itch I need to scratch you could say.

The same thing kind of goes for my writing. I like to write about everything and I've made it a clear statement numerous times that I one day want to have a book published. Who the heck knows about what. But if you really get to know me...you know I have PLENTY to write about just based off my own life! But my recent time here at Esente has made me pick up on that dream again and really want to pursue it.

I'm not really sure what has been motivating me to start reaching for these goals...Maybe it is Ron's daily rants about how we need to figure out what we want and then start working for it. I mean these are dreams and goals I’ve had for years but yet I’ve never pursued them full heartedly. I realize that if you want a dream to become reality you need thrust yourself into achieving it with full commitment. Its not that I think I've wasted time...but I want that day to come when I can look back with a huge accomplishment in hand and can really appreciate and be proud of how I spent that past time working for and achieving that goal.

I truly think anything can happen...for anyone. If they want it bad enough.
And if they are willing to work for it.

Be back next week! Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend :)

First day at Esente Music Group

Hello everyone!

I'm Jorge Herrera I am graduate student attending the SMFA/Tufts Univ. MFA program. I'm very passionate about art but specially graphic design due to the field being far reaching and understandable to the public. At Esente Music Group I will be working in the graphics side and I'm very excited to work in projects that have some social value like the anti-bullying and stop drunk driving which are problems affecting young people continuously. I'm hoping that while at Esente I get to work on my communications skills, continue to build a portfolio and if my work makes a difference to somebody all the better.

Supreme decisions and an english major's business experience

Today was a huge day for the Supreme Court. Striking down the DOMA and their ruling on Prop 8 are big steps for the gay rights movement. It’s really cool to read about the court’s decisions as people react to them when they come out.

Leads here this morning, as usual. I’m a lot better at them than when I first started. It’s nice to see improvement. I also turned down the brightness on my screen so my brain doesn’t melt.

In addition to my big project, Bullhorn, Amanda assigned me to write the “2 Minute Drill” on OnPoint’s business blog. As an English Lit major I haven’t had formal training in business so it’s really cool that I’m learning so much about it here. For the drill I can either summarize an article I found or write my own-a little different from previous blogging here, where I only summarized. For the first one I integrated a bunch of articles with my own take on them. I’m going to try to become comfortable enough to write my own at some point. I also wrote a one-sheet of ideas for our OnPoint Facebook page. It’s kind of funny to see how daunting social media is for businesses because I’ve just used it recreationally for so long. I now understand the intimidation though, it’s hard to promote on these websites because there are so many businesses trying to do it. Hopefully I came up with some ideas that will make OnPoint’s page a little more appealing.

Have a great day everyone!

Please don't rain...

This was an extremely productive week, I really feel like we have been doing a lot. I think it is because we were given the projects, which is more work and responsibility, but its fun to be a part of. I can't believe that its already noon and we're done doing leads. Today is flying by! One of the reasons for this may be because I've been listening to throwbacks on my iTunes and its bringing back waves of nostalgia. It's funny to me how songs can bring back memories that I haven't thought about in years. I often wonder how many other people in the world have their own memories from the same songs that I love. This is one of the reasons I enjoy working for Esente, because the company uses songs as a way to reach out and connect to people, as well as promoting good causes.
While we were doing leads the internet kept going down which was mildly annoying, but there are so many people here today that is probably why. I feel like every day there are new interns, which is exciting! I'm hoping that today after lunch we get to work more on our projects. Since it is still in the beginning stages its a little difficult getting everything together but once we're further into it and finish it I know it was be extremely rewarding.
After I leave here I'm going to the Cape for a nice long weekend. I'm praying that the weather app on my phone is wrong and that it won't rain at all, but with my luck it will downpour all weekend. So much for a relaxing weekend on the beach! I'm sure I'll still find something to do, but nothing is as fun as laying in the sun...

Getting in Shape is Overrated

Woke up at 5 am for a jog this morning and let me tell you that will never happen again. Yikes am I tired. And Hungry.

I think I complain too much.

It's been a slow morning but hey it's hump day, which means after lunch it's officially almost the weekend. Right?

A lot of exciting stuff is happening in the news right now making it pretty hard to focus on leads. Also still bummed about the bruins. What can ya do.

Hoping to do some fun stuff this afternoon.

RIP DOMA and 3D-ness

Leads this morning was a little slow for me. The search engines kept freezing up and my facebook and phone were blowing up about the news on overturning DOMA. Yay marriage! I got through it all though and found the will to keep working.

On Monday I started work on creating my 3D model. I was hoping to use Autodesk Maya but access to that is pretty difficult if you're broke so I went with the free Blender software. I haven't used Blender extensively, but the mechanics are all similar from what I hear. I just need to learn a few hotkeys and to tinker with the interface.
My goal is to finish modeling at the end of this week. So far I have the body mesh. I started on the head but decided to redo it. I was going for realistic but I think I'll go for "cartoony" instead. It'll be easier to manage in the end, plus if we have access to the real person there's no point in making the animation.

Here's a screenshot of work in progress -

Day ___? I can't remember...

I came across this awesome Lana Del Rey cover of Born to Die cover on Spotify by The Amity Affliction this morning. Needless to say, I was super psyched. I think I've listened to it about 20 times already, just leaving in on repeat.

This morning, I made the mistake of drinking a giant thing of orange juice (I think it was a quart) and then getting a large iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts before coming into work. I'm sure I don't to explain why this was a poor decision.

I'm still upset that the Bruins lost, not that I'm that big of a fan, but just because of the way Game 6 went. It was one thing for Chicago to tie, but for them to score another goal on Rask 17 seconds after their first was ridiculous. Like I said, I'm not a die hard fan, so this is about as far as I can voice my opinion on the matter. I still don't like it though.

I recently learned that Ed Markey won the senate race last night. I didn't vote because I didn't really care that much. I know I should have because of the history of our country and our fight for freedom and liberty. I didn't vote because I was ill-informed of each parties stances on political issues. Oh, well.

The internet was pretty spotty today, making finding leads a bit of a pain. It wasn't so much the network here, but I think some of the lead sites were seeing a large amount of traffic, making them super slow or crash. Because of that, I only found 44 today. It's not too bad, but it's not my best either.

According to the Weather Channel, it's supposed to rain off and on for the next week straight... I think I might go crazy. As much as I love staying inside and vegging out while there's crappy weather outside, that fun only lasts a day or two. Plus, from what I've heard, the amount of rain you see in the warmer months correlates to the amount of snow that may fall in the colder months. If it rains a lot in the summer, the chances of snowing in the winter decrease. Unlike most people, I happen to love the snow, most likely due to my love of skiing. I'd much prefer a dry summer and a snowy winter.

(Insert clever title here)-Part 11

It's a wonderfully humid day today in Beverly, luckily the office is kept like a refrigerator so not a drop of sweat fell. This morning I started off with leads again, I clocked in 74 today which is a little below my   average but between the internet being spotty and Benny being so needy today it's a decent number. I'm excited for the rest of the day because were beginning to start on a major project. This project will be the majority of my focus for the rest of the internship. Basically what the project is a outreach campaign to schools, newspapers, and bands in all 50 states in hopes that in the end of it all, to showcase 50 stories of bullying, 50 bands with positive messages, from 50 different states. The idea is to show the victims of bullying that they're not alone, that there are people all around the country who understand what they're going through and they're are musicians who are trying to set an example for the younger generation and promote a better life style. My job on this project will be writing a lot of the information and templates that will have to sent out to people potentially interested in sending their stories or music. That's about it for now.

Slow Progress Is Still Progress

It's my fourth day and I think I've settled in mostly. While I have plenty of graphics made for posters, I'm not quite sure what I should actually write on them. Most of the taglines I think of sound too cliqué, even in my head.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

A crappy week for Boston Sports

First the Bruins... Now Hernandez!

Today feels a lot like a Monday, because I have really no reference of what tasks have been given to the interns this week, I'll catch up fast I am sure.  Monday I emailed my final CD covers, I really like how they came out, have not received any feedback yet, time will tell.  Today is most certaintly a 'headphones in music blasting' work day.  Leads were a little tough today as one of the websites went down, as did the internet at one point, but after that I jumped on a certain category...and off I went!

OH! One thing I didn't mention my last post...I think is that I learned how to use Word Press last week...which is pretty cool, the art nerd in me was like cool!!! I was taught how to change links and images on the Buzz on bullying website, and given the task of every week updated the links, adding new ones, resizing the logos that go with them etc. It is pretty cool because I knew nothing about Word Press, and it is a great Design tool as well as PR, so I get to add that to my bag of tricks!  Only know how to do one thing with it, but hopefully I will learn more to build my knowledge of it.

Not sure what the afternoon has in store for the interns, so excited to see what happens.  I am pretty excited about the week ending, not to say I am thinking too fast past today...but I am.  Saturday I leave for Martha's Vineyard for two weeks with my family, and my boyfriend.  I am in some serious need of MV beachin' it, with my only cares being putting more sunscreen on and should I take a nap or go in the ocean.  The internship has not caused me to be super tired and stressed, other than the commute, but most of it stems from my other job.  Some days I will have the internship till 3, commute home and go straight to work till closing...which gets me home around 11:30.  This week they actually wanted me to do that two days in a row!!! Yeah right! That is why I changed my days around this week, so that I could actually be useful rather than using my laptop as a pillow.

Well until Friday...

50/50

Ron recently assigned myself and 4 other interns to the 50 project. 50 States, 50 Artists, 50 Stories. Yesterday Shayna and I got started on our checklist; she tackled getting the contact information of public schools across the country for the story component of the project and I created the smashing logo you see above. There's still much to do! We might even continue working on this project through fall, and I'm pretty excited because it's a big responsibility. We still need to create a few more graphics, our social media webpages, mission statement, and we're waiting on our website to be created before we start contacting the bands and bullying victims so we can display our credibility. The question we have for you if any of you find the time to actually read this, is if you know of any original bands personally in any state (including massachusetts) because that would help speed up the process of finding them if we cannot come up with the most ideal search mechanism in the next few weeks. Keep us posted!

GOOD DAY TO BE GAY

Today was a not so productive morning. . .
I was far to distracted trying to finish my list of leads while also following the news.

I was following abc news and nbc news trying to find out the outcome of todays big decision on DOMA and Prop8. As it turns out, we had a huge victory and now marriage is legal in California and DC, along with the past states that have already legalized marriage. Therefore, these states are now offering legal, recognized marriages.

Other than the news and my lack of focus today I did however manage to create a number of logos for the 50 Project. I am hoping to show the group and see which of the logos they think would work the best and also see what else has been created for the project. Things are really begin to roll here

day 11 of this so called Framtiden

And today, Swedish. I really like the way Swedish sounds when it's spoken; it's like a nicer German (Have you ever listened to German death metal? It's probably the angriest you will ever hear a person sound.).

This morning has been frustrating as far as leads go. I kept getting kicked off the internet, and when it was finally working pretty well merchant circle went down, and the new list I got on manta was a bust for leads. I think I got 8 leads from the at least 50 places listed. So today I got less than I have been getting, but at least it's still more than I was getting my first week. It's actually about halfway between the averages of the two weeks I've been doing leads.

Yesterday, I updated BizBuzz again and worked on a new project. I'm designing promotional graphics for some of our sites. It's super open, but my ideas are having troubles flowing, although I did work on a cute little cartoony bee in a suit jacket for the BizBuzz promo. He looked really creepy when I started though, so I got some help from a fellow designer on what I should change to make him more personable and less I'm-going-to-come-into-your-house-tonight-and-sting-your-face.

Last night, I had my first real class with LGR. It was a math night, so we went over some math and a bunch of methods to beat the SATs. I got the highest scoring group, and I got lucky because they're all pretty motivated and not disruptive. Sure, a few of them are shy, but once I get their names down completely I think I'll be able to make them answer questions more often. At least I didn't get a class like one of the other coaches had, her students wouldn't listen to her at all and I really just wanted to tell her that she had to be louder, because she's a very quite person and she needs to be able to speak over disruptions.

Hopefully I get some better ideas today for the promos!

Juan De Los Santos

Today is officially my first day at esente as a graphic design intern, like every opportunity I have had my objectives are simple.

  • Improve on current skills
  • Acquire new skills
  • Achieve proficiency within the newly acquired skills.

I am not going to say I dislike talking about myself however I've always found it to be a bit tedious on the readers behalf so I am just going to create a series of bullet points of my interest, past experience etc it just seems more efficient.

          Employment:
  • Mathematics tutor (Upward Bound)
  • Submissions analyst
  • US army (SGT)
         Education:

  • Salem State University 2013 Economics BS
  • Endicott College 2014   MS Information Technology

         Hobbies
  • Market information (Its much more interesting than you think)
  • Music (piano, guitar)

Well that is an extremely condensed version of my interest etc.. I am actually excited to work on both the "anti-bullying" poster as well as the "drunk driving" posters. Right now I am concentrating on a specific area of bullying which ironically affects adults as much as children "socio-economic bullying". .

Thank you for reading.

Nature Valley Bars Should Come With a Dust Pan....

Seriously though....these granola bars are ridiculous. How is it possible to produce this many crumbs from these 2 bars in a package! I can't eat one without looking like a complete slob after....Like do they hit the packages a few times before putting them on the market? I honestly crack up at the fact that I'm surrounded by bits and morsels of granola after consuming these things. I'd probably stop buying them if they weren't so damn good...I guess the crumbs are worth it.

Anyway. This morning flew by! Collecting leads for three hours can be tiring and redundant but it truly does make the time fly. It is also really helping me with my research and computer skills. I have found ways to record the data easier and quicker. I have also been exposed to so many different styles and formats of websites so I am constantly getting exposure to different advertising techniques...good & bad! After lunch today I will be working on an assignment dealing with a new client of ours. I will be "sprucing up" their website so to speak, by editing some of the written content etc.

On a sad note...the Bruins lost. I swear every time I actually try to get into a sport and enjoy watching it/cheering on the team...we lose. Maybe I should just stick to not liking sports.....or realistically the players that are playing the sport...*cough* Tyler Seguin ;)

Well, I hope everyone has a great rest of the day!

day 10 of this so called Viitor

Romanian today.

Thursday I finished up 4 album covers, although my favorites are the two in this post. I also started updating the links at the bottom of the bizzbuzz page, so I'll be doing that every Tuesday from now on. It's not terribly difficult, but I like coming up with the slogans.

This weekend was probably the second most tiring weekend I've experienced, the first most tiring being the weekend I took 3 days of swing dance classes all day and went to dances every night until midnight or later. I basically did a mini-tour of the Boston/Northshore area in 2 days because my boyfriend came up for the weekend,  and he'd never been in Massachusetts before. I also had a ton of amazing food. Saturday my dad caught lobster, so we had that on Sunday for dinner, and last night I came into Beverly with a friend and I ate crab and octopus sushi. So good.

Anyway, this morning I finished about the same amount of leads I was averaging last week, so I believe I've found my speed.

What have we done so far?

Happy Tuesday! The rain is gone and it is very hot out. Good thing we have so much AC.

I’ve been thinking about everything that I’ve done here because Ron asked us to make a list so that we remember. It’s good thing he said that because I’ve been here for 5 weeks and I’m already starting to forget everything I’ve done because it has been so much. I’ve collected leads, sent a few (5, to be exact), written blog posts, updated Twitter and Facebook for clients, updated our business blog, edited websites, collected inspiration materials for creative projects, gotten assigned to a big project, started my own blog, created general written content, given feedback to our graphic artists, thought about my future, driven hours and hours to get here and back, and went on a sales call. That’s a lot!

My favorite part was the sales call. I felt like I was really part of the company (not that I don’t know, but being called a “marketing associate” was pretty cool) and I got to see exactly how our work is presented to the world.

I can’t wait to start on Bullhorn! I hope everyone has an awesome day.

Accepted!

No not Accepted like the movie, although that is a funny movie. I am happy to say this weekend I found out that I was accepted into the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Journalism and Mass Communication.  I have been waiting to see if I got in pretty much since school ended and am excited to be accepted into the major that I wanted.  It is a competitive program and I worked hard to earn my spot in the class of 120 students. There are two sides either PR and Broadcasting and I'm not sure which track I want to choose.  Maybe one day you'll see my face on TV. Only 2 more months until I'm back in Madison and it can't come soon enough as I'm really missing all my friends.

In other exciting news I was in New York this weekend and saw Annie on Broadway with Jane Lynch which was a surprise from my family. Annie is one of my favorite childhood movies and I love Glee so naturally I really enjoyed the performance.  If only I were as talented as the 7-12 year old girls that played the orphans on stage....a girl can dream. If you saw them on the Tony's they really were that good, if not better, in real life.

Today I got back to work from being out since last Tuesday.  I got right back into doing leads but time seemed to be passing slowly.  However, I'm sure the rest of the day will go by quickly after lunch. I have an assignment in my mailbox ready to be opened and started after lunch and it has to do with rewriting content for a website.  I think it will be cool to rewrite the information and later see my work up on the Internet. Again I really like these projects that give me real world experience because some day in the real world this could be my job.

Just got surprised by Ron as he asked to talk to me on the phone.  Being the 13 year old girl that I basically am, I do like Justin Bieber and I'm not afraid to admit it.  This is a fact that all my friends know about me.  He just told me to go to his desk and gave me a collecters Justin Bieber magazine.  Believe it or not, I will read it. Sorry I'm not sorry.

Never say never,
Rebecca

Sleep Deprivation

This morning has been pretty rough for me. I'm still pretty jet lagged from my trip and probably got a total of 30 minutes of sleep last night. When I first got here this morning and started doing leads I was literally about to pass out and only got about two dozen done. One of the perks of working here is that Dunkin Donuts is downstairs, so I went down and got an ice tea to wake me up and was exactly what I needed. After that I powered through the rest of the leads doing tripple the amount it took me to do before the caffeine boost.
Yesterday we were given projects and I'm so excited to really get into mine with my group. Gabriella, Pete, Cassandra, Matt and I are working on a project called 50. Its basically getting 50 bands from each state to participate in a CD, free for them, and getting 50 kids who were bullied from each state to tell their story. I think that using music to promote good causes, like anti-bullying, is extremely powerful and I can't wait to be a part of it. I'm also excited to work in a group so I can get to know the other interns! Gabriella and I drive here together so I know her pretty well, but the other four interns seem great and I can't wait to get to know them better.
I think that this project is going to be great experience because there are so many aspects to it! We have to find the bands, find the kids with the stories, get the cause publicity, create social media sites for the cause, and much more. It's going to be a great learning experience and it will teach me a lot!

Where's that obnoxious noise coming from?

Lil ol' me acourse. I can barely keep my eyes open despite all the sugar in my lemonade this morning and the extra shot of butt flavored expresso in my dunkin's cup, so I've been listening to heavy metal all morning to try and jolt some energy into me. I do humbly apologize. Yesterday I was assigned to the 50 project regarding the 50 bands from 50 states and 50 bullying stories we need to collect. Yesterday we got some of the groundwork going but hopefully we'll make more progress today. Despite the fact that we made a to-do list that is proudly hung up in the corner, I really have no idea where to start. I need to come up with a logo but it's a bit of a challenge finding a creative but easily translatable graphic for two simple numbers. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to let me know!
Last week I was assigned to work on an animation project, which I am pretty excited about. We're basing it on another video that Ron showed us. It's not a direct lift obviously, just supposed to be similar. None of the animation in the video is particularly complicated, so it shouldn't be too difficult once I get started on that. Right now we're still doing the planning stuff. It's something that should look good in a portfolio, so I'm glad that I get to work on it.

New Projects

Today is my first day back after two weeks of being on vacation. It's nice to be home but I miss the beach and just doing nothing. From what other interns have told me there has been more group work starting which I'm excited to get into. I think group work will be really fun and interesting. I forgot how cold it always is in the office and I'm freezing! I'm a little jet lagged too I couldn't fall asleep last night for the life of me, it was miserable. But now that I am awake (for the most part) and getting back into the swing of things it feels like I never even left.
Before lunch Ron gave us an intern speech and one of the things that he touched upon was when we could work until. He said that in late August there will be a lot of work recording music and music videos and if we aren't available to work uncertain hours. I think this would be interesting to learn and really fun to be a part of, since I am going to graduate school in Boston, I really hope that I am free to be a part of this!

Another Week

It's the start of another week at Esente Music Group for me and I'm very tired. I had an exhausting weekend which included two cookouts, one party, one Tall Boys show and not much sleep. Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch the full Bruins game because I was playing a show during the game (again). Hopefully they can pick up the pace tonight and I'm really hoping that Bergeron is able to play.

This morning Ron had some of the interns bring some dusty tables up from the basement and set them up. The morning also consisted of internet marketing research for the Onpoint company. I collected 38 leads which is fair since the tables took up a decent amount of time. Ron is organizing the recording sessions and photo shoots this week and I am hoping I can be a part of the team that goes. I am really interested in that since it would be a very relevant activity for my major.

Empire State of Mind

I've returned from NYC with one thing in mind. When is the next time I can return? I fell in love with the city & everything it offers. Although I couldn't agree more with Ron's advice to live with your parents as long as you can to save money...I am a little torn. I am already 22 years old. Since I've been 15 I've dreamt of living to NYC. I've said for years that I'll move there one day...but not necessarily to live there for good. I feel like if I don't take the chance soon, while I’m young, and follow my dream to the city I will regret it for the rest of my life. Not only that...but I’ve been relying on my parents for my entire life. I have been taking Ron’s initial advice for as long as I’ve lived. I want to take the step away from that comfort zone. I don’t want to rely on my parents anymore. The thing is...is that I understand I’m not going to get my dream job right away and thats okay because I’m willing to work for it. But if I want my dream job to be in NYC isn’t that where I should be? With every career step I take now, I will proceed with NYC in mind. Seeing my dream in real life this past week was almost like a reality check. I may not be there now, but everything I do here in Boston, in Beverly...at Esente is a step towards where I want to go in life.
The assignments I do here, whether it is writing anti-bullying articles, posting for social networks, or working on client’s webpages are all beneficial to my end goal. Every experience I have here, small or large is an opportunity to practice and perfect my skills and knowledge. Over the next week the interns are being organized into groups to work on specific projects. I’m excited to see what type of work I will be assigned and look forward to starting it.

sweaty monday

welcome welcome, monday.
I have been furiously working on leads and have only gotten one list! However I am getting a lot better at figuring out which companies will actually have a website and where I can find this information.

I got a lot of feedback on my designs, so I hope to work on what people have said about them and bring the improvements on Wednesday when I am back.

After a long weekend relaxing at the Cape, today I start fresh on a new direction. Instead of posters, I'll be working on one 3D project. I don't have much to say at this point but I'm excited. Hopefully I'm not biting off more than I can chew.
