Researching All Week

This week the interns continue working on the dog park app project we started last week. Now that we have more insight into how to work this project from start to finish, we are thinking about all of the steps and processes we need to go through. Yesterday we started looking for competitor and/or similar websites and apps to compare and contrast to the features we want to emulate and also stray from. Then we needed to identify the different features and tools available on these platforms in order to organize them in a spreadsheet. Today I am spending my time organizing the website features into spreadsheets. This is time-consuming as I need to go through the websites and figure out where everything leads and also take notes on how things work. Tomorrow Taf and Matt are back in the office so we can continue to collaborate on doing this research to progress in this project.

Dog Park Continued

This morning when I got into the office I continued to work on the dog park project. I reviewed what we had done last week and tried to fill in some blanks that we had missed. When Taf got here in the afternoon we talked about what our next step should be. Not long after that Ron called us in for a meeting and gave us a little more direction. My workday is almost over but I will continue my research when I get here in the morning.

Dog Park research

Today is the 3rd day of our dog park project and we are doing a good job with getting things done and being up to date. Earlier today, Matt and I along with Ron were checking out some dog park webpages to see what we can come up with. Along with that, starting tomorrow, we will be working on ways to promote this project once it's finished. Apart from them, we are researching a bit more on how dog park websites and for park apps are similar and different from one another, and what do they feature. This is going to be an awesome, fun, and challenging project! Glad I'm a part of this!

Today when I get into the office I picked up where Kayleigh left off yesterday with our research about the new dog park app. She got a lot accomplished yesterday so I didn’t have much to research this morning. I just had a few questions and ideas to bounce off of her, luckily she got into the office not to long after me. When she got here we talked about the research she had done and how we would could improve our list. We changed a couple things and wrote down questions and ideas we had for Ron. When Taf got here we brought him up to speed on everything and then Ron called us into his office for a meeting. In the meeting we set some goals as to where we think we should be at certain dates. We will now spend the rest of the day continuing to move forward with this project and trying to meet our goals.

This week I, along with Matt and Kayleigh have been assigned to work on a dog park project with a deadline of 29 days. It will be tough, challenging and fun. We have done the research we needed to create the rest, now we are working on sorting out what needs to come first and what will be used last on the site/app. This is day 2 of the project, and we will be starting to design the look of  the site/app next week.

The start of a new project

Yesterday I spent most of my day doing article summaries for both bullying and drunk driving to be used on the blog. That took up most of my day until all of the interns had a group meeting with Ron to get a new assignment to work towards a project. This project is centered around an idea for a new app that will be centered around dog parks, which is inspired by the office's black lab mascot Benny. Taf had already learned a little bit about this idea a few weeks ago and did some initial research on similar apps already out there. Today I spent my time reading his notes, looking at all the similar apps, critiquing them, and reading reviews. From there, I brainstormed the type of features we could add to the ones Ron already gave us in the meeting and outlined specifics about each feature. I also wrote down some additional ideas that we could possibly incorporate into the app, as well as some design elements. I'm really looking forward to seeing this project through and have been writing down notes even outside the office of ideas that pop into my head or other info to explore. Tomorrow the other interns are in the office so we can sit down and discuss what we have  so far and go from there.

This morning when I got to the office, I got right to work on some more crowd funding research. I did this for a few hours but right before lunch Laura gave me a new assignment. This assignment was to start coming up with a few ideas for the cover of Jayna’s new cd. So far I have a few different covers in the works and will continue working on them until the end of the day. Taking a break from research and doing some design was a nice change of pace and a good way to end the week.

Time for Spring Break!

It's been a month since I've been interning for Esente and today's my last day before I leave for Spring break and won't be coming back till the 17th! My day started off with looking up and summarizing articles on drunk driving. Sometimes it's hard to browse through them and difficult to write about new ones because sometimes they don't have much to say, especially if it took place within a day or less than 4 hours ago or so. Right now I will start researching on social media for Jayna Lininger and how we can promote her on different social networking websites.

Last Day before Spring Break

Today is my last day in the office before I have spring break next week and won't be coming in. I'm looking forward to having a mental break to recharge and refresh, but to also catch up on sleep and even read some books I've been meaning to. The first part of my day was doing 5 article summaries on current bullying stories. Sometimes finding unique bullying articles is difficult because they are all very similar to one another, but I luckily didn't have much difficulty finding some new material to write about. After that, I went back into the social media book and have nearly finished Jayna's social media overview and critique. Right now I'm looking up platforms for musicians to use to promote themselves to see what Jayna could be doing that she already isn't, such as having a wikipedia page or using spotify. Next I'll start writing down ideas for ways that myself and future interns can promote Jayna through our own social media channels, such as our personal facebook and twitter accounts. This may be pretty challenging as I'm not on a few of the platforms I should be, but it will be a learning experience and will benefit Jayna.

Summing It All Up

I'm now halfway through week 6 of my internship here at the Esente office. Taf and I spent last Thursday and yesterday finishing both the Internship Guideline book and the Social Media book. We also split up the article summaries of this week for the blog. Today I'm the only intern in the office so I'm writing up a social media critique and strategy on how to promote Jayna using the social media she already has or should utilize. This consists of a lot of time looking through her facebook, reading tweets, seeing what hashtags she uses on instagram, etc. Personally social media campaigning is a strong point of mine so I'm finding this to be not overly challenging and also enjoyable. When Taf is in the office again tomorrow I'd love to have him read over the work I've done today and give me feedback or add his own ideas. Collaboration is key when it comes to campaigning.
