2/5/13

Today we started with an early intern meeting, during which we went over the importance of creating and monitoring mechanisms in order to be as productive as possible. We also learned about “sparking,” a term used to describe a method of promotion and active PR whereby an insider comments, likes, or otherwise initiates hype on their own video, blog, product, etc. The idea is that if people see that others are commenting on or enjoying whatever you are marketing then they will follow suit. After working on researching leads for Onpoint I was able to complete the TV stations section of my Rhode Island media contacts list. During the latter half of the day the interns were divided into two groups. My group’s assignment was to begin work on compiling a list of sporting events, along with relevant contacts, where Jayna Lininger would potentially be able to sing the National Anthem. I took on the responsibility of compiling contacts for the minor league teams in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky. I quickly discovered that it was a more challenging task than I had initially thought. Most of the minor league team websites are not the easiest to navigate, and often times the contact information I was looking for was either not present or required a bit of digging around. I will continue work on compiling this list of contacts tomorrow.
