Today we're beginning work to produce a One Night Stand (Right Now) benefit. The preliminary work involved (so far) is going through a giant list of bands. In this case, limited to the city of Tampa, Florida. We are trying to zero on the bands most likely to need and take advantage of the opportunity we offer. This means that they have enough fans to confirm their existence, but not so many that they'll laugh at the conditions of our offer. It is amazing how many of them either don't list any contact information for booking, or just list a band member's name rather than display anything helpful to anyone who wants to book them and doesn't sit behind them in remedial english class. We are expected to assemble a list of roughly 34 bands that fit the criteria. After listening to a couple handfuls of them already, I can predict that by the end, not only will I have a list of 34 bands, but 34 more reason why Florida is a horrible, horrible place. Or as I like to think of it, the worst parts of Connecticut and California put together. Despite the involvement of a painfully humid, post-ironic wasteland, it should be a fun and resume-building project. I look forward it. I have booked a few shows in Boston, most of which have been pretty successful, but it will be interesting to see what it's like to be operating a little out of my element.
